Treatment of alcohol-related disorders

The alcohol dependence syndrome – is a chronic progressive disease. The common signs include a pathologic compulsion for alcohol (a patient continues to consume alcoholic drinks despite a negative previous experience) and inability to control the dosage and relevance of alcohol consumption (a patient drinks more alcohol than plans and consumes alcohol when it is inappropriate).

The syndrome affects many organs: the liver, pancreas, heart, brain and the peripheral nervous system. Thus, the alcohol dependence syndrome is considered to be a life-threatening disease.

The patients suffering from the alcohol dependence syndrome are examined, treated and rehabilitated at department No.21 of addiction medicine and rehabilitation.

Treatment and aid:

  • detoxification (removal of alcohol and harmful substances from the body);
  • suppression of compulsion for alcohol with the help of medications and development of intolerance to alcohol with medications;
  • psychotherapy: use of trance to relief stress, anxiety, depression, suppression of compulsion for alcohol;
  • psychology: deep understanding of the disease, family problems, motivation for staying sober;
  • physiotherapy: treatment of somatic complications of the alcohol dependence syndrome;
  • integration into Alcoholic Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, self-and mutual-help groups, Kovcheg therapeutic society.

Hospitalization to department No.21 is subject to approval.
